Hiking
Clear Lake Visit site
Clear Lake, “born of fire” is the headwaters of the Mckenzie River. Formed more than 3,000 years ago when lava from Sand Mountain reached the river, backing it up and forming Clear Lake. Trees can still be seen standing from the original riverbank in incredible clear, cold water.
Sahalie and Koosah Falls Visit site
Two of Oregon's most beautiful waterfalls are located about 30 minutes up river from The Oregon Cliff House. Carved through the lava rock above Tomolitch Falls, Sahalie Falls thunders over 100 feet in magnicifant fashion. The viewing area is a very short walk from the parking area. About a half mile down river Koosah Falls drops another 70 feet making this easy excursion well worth the experience.
Tamolitch Falls, Blue Pool Visit site
Located about 20 minutes up river from The Oregon Cliff House, Tamolitch Fall is mostly a dry waterfall now as the Mckenzie River has changed course. The river now feeds this topaz blue pool from underground for most of the year. The two mile hike that climbs through old growth forests and lava flows, is well worth the effort. The incredibly clear, cold, iridescent pool of still water is a hidden treasure that draws a lot of outdoor enthusiasts in the summer. Bring water and hiking boots.
